It's no big secret that I've shared a lot of memes bashing Game of Thrones lately. Like millions of other people that saw the show, I really did not like the terrible writing during this final season. In fact once the show surpassed the books I really stopped liking the direction that the writing took. Sure there were a few moments that I enjoyed, but overall this show fell out of favor with me sometime between Seasons 6 - 7.
Like millions of other people who used to watch the show, I too used to enjoy it. But even back when I used to like it, I found that a lot of my opinions about both the show and the books it was based on were super unpopular. For example, there were always characters that I never liked who became the most popular characters within the fandom. There were also certain aspects of the show that I found straight up repulsive. Last but not least there was also the view and attitude that George R.R. Martin took that didn't gel well with me.
"Well if you don't like it so much, why are you spending so much time talking about why you don't like it?"
Two reasons:
1) Other people were interested: Two friends of mine on Facebook were interested in seeing me write some blog posts about all my problems and issues with the series (show and books).
2) Venting: I need to let it all out. As I mentioned before, I have a lot of unpopular opinions about A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones. Since I have a lot of unpopular opinions that means that I'm not going to see my points of view being shared online so I'm going to need to express why it is that I feel the way that I do.
That being said, I also realize that my feelings towards George R.R. Martin's series are...mixed. There's a lot about it that I like on a conceptual level, but there's also a lot that I dislike about it. I have so many thoughts and feelings about A Song of Ice and Fire, and its adaptation Game of Thrones, that I'm going to need a ton of blog posts to properly explain my position. P.S. If you're a Game of Thrones fan and you like a lot of the popular characters in the series then be warned: I will be very unkind toward characters that you like and identify with.
